Barrhead Gas Works Demolition in 1977.

One of Barrhead's most iconic landmarks were the imposing cylinders of the local Gas Works on Main Street and Glen Street but with the introduction of natural gas they were deconstucted in 1977. Erected in 1900 by the Barrowfield Iron Works Ltd of Glasgow they were commissined by the Barrhead Gas Committee who consisted of Zacharia Heys, Chairman, Alex McLellan, Thomas Locke and James Brownlie.
